Drunk Proof: disclaimer and terms of use
Last updated 30 October 2026
These are the terms you accept on first launch of Drunk Proof. Please read them before you use the app. It's short and in plain English. By ticking the boxes and tapping “I understand and agree”, you accept these terms.
1. What Drunk Proof is
Drunk Proof is a voluntary self-control tool. It helps you limit what you can do on your own phone for a period you choose.
It is not a medical, safety, emergency or addiction-treatment service, and it does not give medical advice. If you're worried about your drinking, talk to your GP or visit the NHS website (nhs.uk).
2. You choose to lock your own phone
When you activate Drunk Proof, you are choosing to restrict access to apps on your own phone until the unlock time you set. You accept that while it's on you may not be able to use, open or see notifications from apps you haven't chosen as safe apps. That may include messages, emails, social media, banking, maps or travel apps.
Unlocking early is deliberately hard. That is the point of the app.
3. Set it up and test it while sober
Always choose your safe apps and safe contacts, and try everything out (including calling and messaging your safe contacts and unlocking), while you are sober and before you rely on it. Check again after you update iOS or change phone. If you need an app to get home safely, such as a taxi app, Wallet for Apple Pay, or Maps, add it as a safe app.
4. Emergencies and 999
Phone calls, including calls to 999, are handled by iOS, not by Drunk Proof. The developer cannot guarantee that any feature of Drunk Proof will work at any particular time. That includes calls, messages, safe apps, the timer and unlocking, because they depend on Apple's software, your phone, its settings and your network.
Do not rely on Drunk Proof in an emergency. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999.
5. Drink responsibly
Never drink and drive. Drunk Proof does not measure how much you've had to drink. Passing its tests does not mean you are sober, safe or fit to drive. Please drink responsibly and look after your friends.
6. You must be 18 or over
Drunk Proof is only for people aged 18 or over, the legal drinking age in the UK.
7. How to switch it off in an emergency
- Wait for your unlock time. Drunk Proof switches off by itself.
- Use “Unlock early” on the Lock Down tab and complete the steps.
- Or open the iPhone Settings app, tap Screen Time, find Drunk Proof in the list of apps with Screen Time access, and turn it off. This removes all of Drunk Proof's restrictions straight away.
The Settings app and phone calls are never locked by Drunk Proof.
8. Limits of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer of Drunk Proof is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, Drunk Proof or your phone. That includes being unable to open apps, missed or delayed messages, calls or notifications, missed travel or appointments, lost earnings, or lost data.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
9. Your data
Your settings, safe contacts and test scores stay on your phone. Drunk Proof does not send them anywhere.
10. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, Drunk Proof will ask you to read and accept the new version before you carry on using it.
